In this picture, the digital stamps are not made of the same image as the whole. The large picture is a picture of the St. Thomas of Villanova Chapel whereas the stamps are images of the St. Augustine Liberal Arts Center. Since the stamp was a fuller image than the face stamp used in self portrait of self portraits, a black background was not needed to give the whole image more contrast.
