This picture was done with a computerized charcoal brush. I also created this same image using physical charcoal and the two pieces are very similar. The idea for the image originated from the statement "he arrived with umbrella in hand". To take this statement very literally would lead someone to believe a painful event much like the one depicted in this picture had occurred.
